It is the downtown’s best architectural example of Mid-Century Modern design, with clean horizontal features, ornate stainless steel trim around the storefront glass, large windows, etc. It totals 11,953 sq. ft. with approx. 2,500 of that on the 2nd floor.
The Orpheum Theatre
This local historical landmark building built in 1922, with over 28,000 sq. ft. is rich in kenosha history! It has 4 stores, with retail along 6th ave, the mothballed theatre in rear, and wide open spaces, on the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th floors. It has ample public parking in the rear, and great storefront presence on main street. (6th ave). Subsequent new owners have invested additional capital improvements. Now owned By Alex Kudrna and home of Backyard Dream Studio’s, along with a bright new shared office space called the “O”.
This centrally located 3 story limestone building is often shown in many of downtown’s historical photos. This 2 story brick building was purchased thru a sheriff sale. The upper floor has one of the best residential 2 bedroom apartments in all of downtown, with custom cabinetry made by talented Jim Matzur, proprietor of the Boathouse. The first floor commercial was gutted, and the brick wall sandblasted, etc. Subsequent owners have invested significant capital improvements. Today it is home to Sazzy B.
