This high visibility corner location once housed downtown’s Kresge store. (pre curser to Kmart). It is the downtown’s best architectural example of Mid-Century Modern design, with clean horizontal features, ornate stainless steel trim around the storefront glass, large windows, etc. It totals 11,953 sq. ft. with approx. 2,500 of that on the 2nd floor.

CURRENT USE & AVAILABILITY:
Today, this space is the site of an exciting community art development called the Kenosha Creative Space. The Kenosha Art Association, Kenosha Creative Space, Clovis Point, LLC, and the City of Kenosha are working collaboratively to utilize a mix of private & public funding to restore this space as a Community Art Center. The Kenosha Creative Space, currently has a five year, free lease, with an option to purchase the building. The City of Kenosha has pledged $xxx of Federal community block grant funding towards the restoration. The Kenosha community Fund, is overseeing the private donation collection efforts. HISTORY OF THE KENOSHA MAIN STREET BUILDING:
Built in 1952, the building is perhaps the best example in our lakefront downtown of Mid-Century Modern architecture design. The building was designed and build by Kresge. Th large store featured a large eat in counter, with a full commercial kitchen in the basement.
